Surface treatment: Linseed oil paint and birch bark smoke

Benches and tables inspired by medieval form elements, covered by a marbling technique borrowed from an old sloyd technique. The marbling is done by firing birch bark and holding the smoke against a freshly painted surface with linseed oil paint. This project was a collaboration between the Technical Museum in Stockholm and Malmstens Linköpings University, where we students would produce furniture for their new café in their new building built entirely out of wood. My idea was to break with the building's materiality and uniformity with wood processing as a sustainable alternative.

In this process I combined working by hand with working with renderings, so the surfers of the renderings are photos of experiments of the marbling technique.
